Actresses Unite in Groundbreaking Public Service Campaign Promoting Love and Respect

Raise your hand if you don't know that condoms can prevent HIV transmission. Most of us know this, yet many of us choose not to wear one. Why? Perhaps there's condom fatigue or no longer a fear of HIV. Some of us drink or use drugs, especially crystal meth and our guards? go down. No matter the situation or reason, there is a resurgence of new HIV infections among gay men since 1999.

Rather than tell you what you already know, we wanted to speak with sexually active men about how wearing a condom and talking about HIV with our partners demonstrates respect for ourselves and each other. A condom is not an inhibition but an act of love and respect. We also wanted to encourage all of us to care enough to get involved in the lives of our friends and to support each other in stopping crystal meth use and staying HIV negative. This is what the Look/Listen/Love/Respect campaign is all about.

Each PSA is its own story. Susan Sarandon talks about "the moment" when a person decides to wear a condom or not. Amanda Peet let's us know that being a friend means "talking about even the hard stuff." Whoopi Goldberg tells us that love and respect is "cool." And, Rosie Perez encourages us to "use a little imagination" in what's hot. In all, the PSA speak frankly yet in an affirming way about sex, crystal meth, friendship, risk-taking and love.

Listen to what these women are telling gay men. They did this out of love and respect for us. Let's love and respect ourselves.
